Hi Fellow members from Alaska, the wife has been making suggestions for a while now on a cruise to Alaska from either Vancouver or Seattle. What would be the best time of year to see animals on a self drive tour of Alaska, was thinking August to coincide with the Wapiti rut in Banff. Would have liked to drive from Alaska back down to BC but this looks to be a hard proposition re hire cars. thanks for any replies keep your barrell clean and your powder dry

I'm thinking any of the summer months would be fine, but maybe August or early September better. True, in September you may well be able to bump into some snow but the fall colors here are well worth seeing and maybe you'd see more game out and about as the breeding season commences as you mentioned in Banff? Recently our Anchorage paper had some good photos of moose in the breeding season and the bull were just out of their minds, walking down the middle of four lane highways, fighting each other thru chain link fences, etc,... Animals aside, the fall colors are well worth it.
