My brother in Alaska has a .22 but never carries it in the bush.

I have a early 1970's vintage Marlin 39A that is my favorite gun. I have a Lyman peep on it but am going to scope it soon. My eyes are not what they once were. My old school favorite is a Remington 241 that my dad had since the 40's. I killed a lot of NE Iowa squirrels with that gun.

For rifles, Remington #2 rolling block, Marlin 25 bolt, Ruger 10/22, Savage falling block and a Taurus pump, handgun is a Ruger 22/45. I still need to get a lever gun Big Grin

I'm most likely to hunt with the 22/45, and the kids love the 10/22. I just wish they'd be the ones loading the mags, I can never keep up with them.

I use my Browning Buckmark and my scoped Marlin 980S bolt-action. The 980 is deadily accurate and has accounted for many dead rabbits this past winter. Now with a light dusting of snow on the ground, time to bring it out for more.

I just picked up a 10/22 CRR. It is the compact with 16 1/8" barrel and shorter non barrel band stock. I put a 2-7x28 leupold VxII on it in leupold mounts and honestly couldn't think of a better all around small game rifle. Its short so it fits the rifle rack on the 4 wheelr without stick out past the handlebars and its great in the tight brush where we find most of our snowshoes. I just got it the other day and have already shot 5 snowshoes and two grouse in two hunting trips.

Here is a picture of my three year old and a pair of grouse we shot yesterday. I carry him in my pack frame with only his head sticking out of the bag, keeps him warm and happy and me in shape. Ever try hiking a couple miles with a squirming 40lb pack on. Pretty tiring to say the least.

I've got a couple of .22s, but the Henry Minibolt is my pack rifle......30.25" overall, weighing in under 3lbs, stainless/synthetic, William's Firesights, a bit short for an adult but as accurate as any other I own, and it fits in most any pack......great camp pest or small game rifle. Very safe, good safety features when considered for a kid's first rifle.

Aren't 22's fun. WE always have a community Easter egg shoot each spring and my Rem 40X with Leupold mil-dot scope and Ely ammo always becomes a favorite when the eggs get out to 150 yards.
I still havn't figured out why loaded 22 ammo is cheaper than primers though. Not complaining mind you.

Let's see..
The "newest" to me is a #3 Ballard - only about 130 yrs young. MVA rear tang sight at the moment.

An original low wall that I rebuilt and fully tricked out with english walnut, Lilja barrel, fecker scopes (2), a Lyman scope, and MVA tang sights is my favorite and most accurate.

There there are
an 1890 Winchester pump rifle with early Marbles
tang sight. This is my first rifle and dangerous rabbit gun.

A Marlin 39A also with an early Marbles tang sight- a former dangerous rabbit gun, now safe queen.

a Rem 241 speed master with Marbles tang sight.

and last but not least, a 722 Hopkins and Allen

Probably missed one somewhere.

I GOT mine when I was 14. 44 years and 200,000+ rounds later it still runs. Apache black and chrome.

Yeah, and they are cheaper that 20 caliber airgun pellets too!

I use a scoped Ruger 77/22 or Marlin 39M with peep sight.

If I had to do it over again, I'd buy a CZ. I've shot a few and they were all terribly accurate right out of the box and the price is right.
