I am doing a DIY Black Bear hunt near Ketchikan in May. A friend of mine and I are taking our Dad's and we are really excited about it.

Any tips or suggestions from those that may have done this before? Clothes, Gear, anything like that? What did you do with meat?

Just trying to get a few more ideas of what we can expect.

Thanks!!

Here is where we are staying.

We will be hunting out of skiffs that the lodge gives us.

Hole in the Wall ... is a great little bar, good hamburgers and hot dogs, nice place to have a Beer.

But it will be a ways for you to find a Bear.

Maybe the head of George Inlet or up Thorne Arm ... both some water miles.

We had friends stay in this place last year...and they loved it.

They told us they (5 of them) all shot their bears relatively close....

They should be able to answer your questions ..

Take a look down Carol Inlet way.

Not many people will take the meat .. it isn't very good table fare. It is great Crab and Shrimp bait.

Your gonna want hip boots, good rain-wear, very good headlamps and it's going to be cold out in a skiff.
