Hunted Kuiu Island with guide Eli Lucas May 15th for a week on his 50 ft boat, Emydon. This is my 3rd hunt with Eli; took a 6'6" square blackie in 2009; other hunter then took magnificent 7'2" bear next day. This year 2nd hunter took a 6'7" bear about noon on day 2. 180 laser ranged shot right on the shoulder. We had pulled into a smaller bay to check it out when the bear was spotted on the beach. Eli anchored the boat 2/3 mile away while the assistant guide took his hunter in the skiff to set up the stalk. We could watch the stalk, the shot & the bang flop. I took a superb 6'9" bear (I was holding one end of the tape) that evening. Perfect hide; huge head. Lased 170 yd shot with my .338 entered about 8 ribs back & exited just behind the off shoulder armpit. Good double lung shot with a quick kill. Spent rest of hunt fishing for Halibut, Rock Fish, and Dolly Vardens. Wish I could figure out hot to post the good pix I got from the hunt/Chaz

Just got a call from Eli; he took another big bear with big head and perfect hide from the same honey hole. I have managed to upload 12 photos from the hunt onto photobucket, but cannot jump through the correct hoops to get farther than that. Would enjoy sharing them, but am stalled. Sorry/Chaz

Thanks, technology is not my strong point. Measured him at 19 2/16. I hunted with Scott McLeod and I was the only hunter. He had just finished up a brown/black combo and I was his last hunt for the spring season. The first couple of days we had fairly heavy rain and wind. We were still seeing bear, but on day three when things lightened up, the volume of bear increased at least three fold. We chased one particular boar off and on for three days, and he only presented me with one shot for about three seconds. I ranged it at 205, but couldn't get a good rest in time. We finally decided he was smarter than us and we moved on. We saw plenty of bear, including two others that were also shooters. This bear was taken on day four in the late afternoon. We spotted him on the beach with a sow and made our move to beach the boat. As we beached the boat, this guy took off chasing another boar. We got into position on the sow and almost immediately she was joined by the boar. He started to push her back into the timber, and as soon as they separated I took him with an offhand shot at 60 yards. We spent the next couple days working our way back to Sitka and doing a little fishing. It was a great trip.

Hi All/hope nobody felt that my one pix was disrespectful of the animal. I had nothing but my hat with me to use for scale to help folks understand the size of his huge head/Chaz
