So we are heading out Sunday for Kodiak(my daughter and I). The plan is to hunt deer in Larsen Bay the week of thanksgiving. We recently decided to stay an extra week and rent a vehicle in Kodiak to do whatever, sightsee, fish, ducks, who knows.

I'm not sure what the best foot and rain gear is going to be for us. Do we need to go all in with Helly Hanson gear? Are chest waders going to be necessary or can we get away with rubber muck boots, hunting boots and a light rain jacket over layers? Any info would be great as the gear lists I've read seem to suggest different things.

It will be cold. Rain is doubtful but possible. Muck boots are nice for any standing water or snow on the ground. I have heard poor reports from the west side of the island for Deer but some snow would sure help. The grass is so tall the deer disappear right now. Most of it is over my head or shoulder height (5’ or so). As cold as it is you should be fine with any rain gear that you can dry every night. It has been windy and brittle cold wind chills last week.
