I am entertaining going on a Grizzly hunt in AK.

Any guide and area recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Paul

Paul,

Just to be clear are we talking about an interior grizzly hunt or a brown bear? They are basically the same animals but the coastal brown bears can be much bigger. I offer both but need to know what you are really interestd in.

Are you looking for a bear that would be recognized by B&C or S.C.I. as truely a Grizzly or would you be Ok with any Brown/Grizzly Alaskan bear? There are several outfitters on here who can offer brown bear hunts (myself included) And probably some who offer Interior grizzly. We need to know what your needs are before we can make recomendations.

I am not wanting to pay the $'s, 15k-20k, for a true Brown Bear hunt. Does that make sense?

I am wanting to pay 9-12k for a hunt not including air fare from home, licenses, gratuities, etc.

I understand that there are some transition areas that are Brown/Grizzly. That will be just fine for me.

I am not a "book" hunter. I would like to hunt in an area where there are good representatives of Brown/Grizzly.

I hope I have provided the info you folks need to make a recommendation.

Paul,

Two years back I hunted with Brian Simpson of Fairbanks. I wrote up my hunt hear and on the campfire. Me and my best friend had the time of our lives. I ended up shooting a 62" moose with my 45 Colt Ruger @ 15 yds and don't regret not shooting a bear.

My buddy, Dan, shot a BEAUTIFUL 8-1/2' boar on day 9 of an 8 day hunt. Brian will hunt longer if you've got the time. Cost was $8k; his cost. Trans, lics, lodging, etc was more. I can't wait to get back up there but family health issues are preventing me from returning ASAP. His spring hunts are nearly 100% success. The bears are agressive Tundra bears. When I called the biologist in Nome he said his bears were "blue collar" bears. I'm a wildlife biologist by education and his statement confused me. He meant his bears hunt for a living and are quite aggressive to bring down full size moose; not "fat, salmon fed, bears lounging around a stream". Give Brian a call @ 907-978-3583 or 907-452-3822. He's an insurance salesman about 9 months of the year and guides north of Teller, which is north of Nome, about 3 months of the year.

My buds bear. I'm on the left in solid green.
