Ladies and Gentlemen: I am planning on hunting in Alaska within the next three years, and am building rifles for those hunts on 1898 Mauser actions. I will try to combine some of the species hunted to keep the cost down, and maybe add to the fun. In your experience what species have you hunted in combination in Alaska, and what cartridges and bullets have you used successfully? This answer will help tailor my choice of cartridges in preparation for my upcoming hunting. Presently, I have a 7x57 Ackley Improved specifically for sheep, and am considering a 358 Norma Magnum, 35 Newton (if Mr. Jamison makes the brass) or the new 375 Ruger case necked down to 358 caliber for everything else, including brown bear. Thank you. Sincerely, Chris Bemis

Chris; i am not a fan of combination hunts as they tend to reduce trophy quality due to limited time constraints. the .358 n.m. is a fine choice with 270 gr. n.p. or similar premium ammo. good scope for that might be a 2.5-8x, 3-9x or 1.75-6x for the brwn bear. good luck Cold Zero
