Californian man faces 48 wildlife violations for unlawful hunting in Alaska

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — A Californian man is currently facing 48 counts of various hunting and fishing violations following an investigation by Alaskan Wildlife Troopers, the Alaska Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced on Wednesday.

The DPS says 44-year-old Dustan Currier of Palo Cedro, Calif., has been charged with 48 counts of various hunting and fishing violations, including 11 counts of hunting without a license, 11 counts of unlawfully possessing or transporting game, and more. They say Currier's charges stem from an investigation that began in August of 2023.

Charges against Currier:

Hunting without Hunting License.
Unlawful Possession/Transportation of Game.
Non-Resident Big Game Locking Tag Required — 10 counts.
Falsify License Application — 3 counts.
Non-Resident take Brown Bear/Dall Sheep/Goat Without Licensed Guide — 3 counts.
Unsworn Falsification in the 2nd Degree — 2 counts.
False Statement on Permit Application — 2 counts.
Falsify Commercial Fishing License.
Fail to Return Permit Hunt Report.
Fail to Submit Personal Use Report.
Deer Season and Bag Limits (GMU8).
Pelagic Rock Fish Limit SE Alaska.
King Salmon Limit SE Alaska.

Alaskan Wildlife Trooper reportedly served a search warrant at a home and aircraft hangar in Fairbanks, Alaska, owned by Currier. during the search, the DPS says Troopers seized Currier's aircraft as part of the investigation.

Additionally, the DPS says the search warrant in Fairbanks was served concurrently with several warrants being served in California by California Fish and Wildlife officers, who seized the 10 big game animals that were taken unlawfully in Alaska.


The DPS says the investigation also involves the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officers. They say the investigation is ongoing.
