John Peterson had another good year for bears in the Togiak Wildlife Refuge where he has an exclusive guide area. He took 5 for 6 this year and they squared on average 9 feet with one an honest 10 plus. The sixth and unsuccessful hunter had a quadruple bypass and once his son had shot his bear he decided he'd had enough fun and left early.

This area just seems to get better each year. You should see 10 or more bears everyday and have a good opportunity at a bear of 8.5-9.5 feet. This is not a butt buster hunt but a fair physical condition will increase your chance of success and perhaps the size of your trophy.

John has one bear left for '07 in the Refuge at $12,500 with dates in early October open.
