My friend and I planned this trip for about a year. He is a commercial fisherman and couldn't get off until the 19th so we missed the Aug 10th opener. The two parties who were in here before us didn't see any legal rams (full-curl) so we knew we had our work cut out for us. The plane dropped us off on the 21st and we pounded a lot of ground until we found rams on the 25th. The group we found had 10 rams in it with 4 definite full curls and one maybe. We went after them the next day and killed two at about 6pm after playing a hell of a chess match with them. My ram rolled over the edge and ended up at 3600 feet , which isn't good since we shot them at 4700 feet. Anyway we were able to recover it the next morning. My buddies ram is9.5 years old and goes 34.75" with 12.5" bases. My ram is only 6.5 years old, but slightley bigger at 35" with 13.75" bases. It felt pretty good to get the packs off when we finally hit the airstrip (of course the scotch helped).

And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too. May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep. May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip. -Seth Peterson

Why couldn't you get to your sheep until the next day? Terrain looks pretty straightforward to me and there is plenty of daylight that time of year. NRA Life Member GOA Life Member Distinguished Rifleman President's Hundred

We couldn't go down the way he went, because we didn't have rappeling gear. We went up the canyon from a different angle the next morning. We shot the rams just to the right of the canyon almost to the top. Here's where he ended up its a lot steeper than the photo shows. We drug him down canyon to butcher and take photos to get away from falling rocks.
