We don't get deep snow that often here on the East coast of the U.S., but it brings my hunting to a screeching halt when it does snow. We got over 2 feet this last go round, and trying to walk is just a pain in the ass. Lots of hard sweaty work to get just a little ways. I don't know how in the world I could drag a deer in this stuff without a sled
I need a better plan. The sled is easy, but
I don't know much of anything about snowshoes.Other than the fact that I need a pair.
I'm about 170 lbs. And I'll only use them a couple of times a year at the most.

It depends on what type of terrain. Hilly, brushy, open meadow? Bear paws or, Michigan travelers, 10 x 48 or 56 should work for you.

Just for a couple time use the sportsmansguide has used miltary snowshoes that are super tough and work fairly well for about 40 bucks a a pair. alum frames cable for stringers. i don't think you could break them if you wanted. I have a couple pairs of them and they are just fine for what I use them for.

I use snowshoes a lot in the Adirondacks, Green Mts, and White Mts. Tubbs brand have been good to me. I spend about $250 on them 9 yrs ago and still running them. Aircrafy aluminum shell and solid plastic type decking. No cracking or wear. THe steel crampon works well on steep slopes.

Thanks a lot for the advice.

I'm going to get the military surplus ones.
Not great for smaller snow falls, but a good price, and great for heavy deep snow.

If they are the US Army metal ones, you can use them to start a fire in a pinch, they are magnesium so just shave a little off & hit it with a flint or lighter
