"We think it sends a very, very bad message that when animals cause a problem you kill them," said Stephanie Boyles of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. What an idiot. We ought to live trap the beavers and sue her to keep them at her home. I work for a Roads & Grounds crew. We've got a 48" culvert that beavers dam up several times per year. Why so often? Because of all the hoops we have to jump through to get a nuisance beaver harvest permit. What's more, the Conservation Officer for the Army post I work at is a greenie, and won't permit trapping on post. That would be a free solution. It's really stupid to let a big rat with webbed feet cost you many thousands of dollars when a 2 cent .22 round will solve the problem.

Tell the Girl Scouts to Stop Torturing and Killing Animals -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you think of the Girl Scouts, do you think of trapping and killing innocent animals, or do you think cookies and good deeds? Think again. In a shocking article in the September 2003 issues of Alaska Magazine, Girl Scout Troop 34s participation in a beaver-killing program conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game was featured. It described how the Girl Scouts learned to trap and kill these ingenious animals using cruel body-gripping trapstraps so cruel that their use is banned or restricted in many states. Often the traps dont kill the beavers immediately and they drown. It can take a beaver up to 20 minutes to drown! The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) condemns drowning it in its 2000 Report of the AVMA Panel on Euthanasia. PETA wrote to Connie Matsui, the president of Girl Scouts of the USA, offering to work with the organization to develop a program that would teach Girl Scouts to be kind to their wild neighbors and promote stewardship and compassion rather than violence. Instead of accepting our offer, Girl Scout officials responded that they believe its OK to teach young women how to torture and kill animals as long as the activity is considered commonplace in that area of the country. Please send a polite, but firm letter to Connie Matsui asking her to please adopt strict policies that prohibit Girl Scouts from engaging in activities that require troop members to torture and kill animals: Connie L. Matsui, President Girl Scouts of the USA 420 Fifth Ave. New York, NY 10018-2798 212-852-5004 212-852-6517 (fax) How about a letter campaign in support of Alaska's girl scouts.

All people should know how to help themselves. The girls are just learning-I hope the Boy Scouts have a similar program. Perhaps the lady mentioned would like them all in her back yard-even though that is inpossible-too many. A suburb of Denver had a beaver overpopulation problem some years ago. They held a town meeting to discuss the situation. The beavers were just doing what they like to do-cut trees even though they were the subs "beautiful" trees. Finally it was decided to castrate the beaver. Never mind how cruel and unusual that was. It took a TRAPPER to tell them that "it wont work. The beaver eat your trees with their teeth NOT their nuts." Amen brother & it seems sisters. Show the Girl & Boy Scouts the best, most efficient, and cheapest way to harvest a renewable resource.
