looking for help or directions who can help pu together outfitted unguided caribou hunt in sept 2007, maybe north west alaska or arctic herd.....thoughts personal experience....
Sept 06 my wife and I did a self guide caribou hunt out of Kotzebue. It was great! We both shot nice caibou. Hers missed B&C by only 25pts. We were 150 miles north of the Artic Circle. We hired Ram Aviation as the air charter. This is there website:
It will depend on what kind of hunt you want...do you want solitude or does having other hunters around bother you? What are your expectations as far as caribou go? You can do a float hunt or a drop camp hunt, either should net you some success. If your wanting to do this hunt this year you really need to get a flight booked soon as they will all fill up long before Sept gets here.
i would like to not have competion over a handful of caribou, would like a 2 caribou area and better than average chance of finding bulls that are the equal of a 27in muledeer, i am open to float hunting or fly out, seems a lot of stories of kotzbue hunters having hunters drooped off all around you and getting game meat back to the lower 48 tough without a guide. i have been in touch with Larry bartlett...
I just did an unguided caribou hunt with PaPa Bear Adventures this past September and was very pleased. No other hunters, beautiful scenery, but only a one caribou unit. I've also heard good things about Renfro's Alaskan Adventures. Feel free to PM me for more information.
If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.
