I know quite a bit about that stuff. I kind of research especially sheep hunters and guides from this period.

BC has several different books that keep records. One thing, though, many old time hunters didn't enter their trophies. They just didn't have the time or inclination to go through two separate measurings.

BC has a guide to mountain game that has a pretty good record of Alaskan hunters.

Sincerely,
Thomas

Might help if you gave us his name. Big Grin Can't be any privacy issues here and it might ring a bell with someone.

I went through the last BC all Time 12th edition and I couldn't find a mention of his name. That doesn't really mean a thing.
Three of the top ten sheep are not entered. There are about 30 sheep that would be in the top fifty that aren't entered either. This is something that goes with the aura of Big Dall Sheep.

I can vaguely recall some mention of him with Dr. Phil Neuweiler, who also never entered any of this trophies with BC. I believe that they were hunting with Slim Moore who was a very famous guide. I would be able to give you some more info if you could give me a couple of names of some of the guides that he hunted with. Some are still around.

Sincerely,
Thomas

Alaska had such a record book.

I have in my possession the 1971 edition of the "Alaska Big Game Trophy Club, Inc." record book.

Looks like the "club" started keeping records in 1962.

There's a Tony Caputo listed for a Grizz taken in '67.

. . . and a Joe Caputo listed for Polar bear taken in '63.

I could send you any data or pages you'd like.

The Weatherby award has never cared what rifle the hunter hunted with.

Jimmy Rosenbruch is a Remington 700 guy.

Pahlavi used a Biesen M70 as well as customs mausers, and even a Purdey.

Jack O'Connor never used a Mark V excepting very limited occasions.

Mellon used a lot of different guns too.

Nice collection of pics there.

Here's the #1 Dall from the Book I have in my collection. It is an actual B/W photo, but the scan makes it look like a painting.

Suprised the guy didn't go after a Walrus too as they were legal to shoot back in the 60's. I get those pages to you here in a day, or so.
