Heard a rumor in town that there were thousands of bou up on our summit today. Now over the years, I've seen 7-8 thousand caribou spread out as far as the eye can see. Probably hundreds today but still a few weeks early as subsistence starts Aug 10th. You know how unpredictable they are, here one day, gone the next, or here all month long. I'm going take a ride up tonight and get some picts, then ride 4 wheelers back in on Saturday. Take a look at the real big bulls are always here early. Will post some picts soon enough.

Good luck Z

Its been a few years since we hunted the taylor. Last time was when the boundry fire flared up (the 2nd year).

After forestry got done fighting the fires, it was opened up like a walmart parking lot. Way to many stupid people.

The last time we hiked in near the DOT station at South fork. HAd a blast until we woke up 1 morning and it was all smoke and you could feel the heat. Knew it was time to go. On the way south we past the mosquito (just south of chicken) and it was a zoo. I knew the days were numbered for that hunt.

Thank goodness for the subsistance hunts for you guys. Fill the freezer before the stupidity begins.

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Only a couple hundred and they were 2 miles in on trail to minicup; boy I fell for that one but I always check it out this time of year. Must be the leading edge making it our way. There were some nice high bulls, but too far off to judge. Nice and dark, lookin good too.

I figure I'll run in on 4 wheeler in day or so to get some picts, maybe more will show up. I did see some single bulls up on summit around the bowl. When the bou do get here, they'll be on both sides of the road and down the road for 50 miles.
