Finally got our first snow on the ground here in Anchorage, sure does brighten up the place - we need more snow for all the outdoor recreational activities i.e. snowmachining, sledding, skiing, snowshoeing, winter camping, snowboarding etc. Plus with the newly arrived snow, it takes the edge off the decreasing amount of daylight which tends to whack out some folks - here is wishing to a good winter

Nice..glad to hear it finally snowed a bit. Hope there's more to follow...can't wait to get home and see it.

We had snow in Fairbanks in mid-September. The next week it was 70 degrees. Then we had freezing rain this past week and a half. What the heck is going on with the weather? It's not even decent enough to go look for snowshoes. Gotta be some sort of conspiracy!!

We finally got about 2" in Bethel. Took the snogo for a little jaunt. Supposed to get up to 2 more inches overnight.

Okay, guys. I'll be the first to write it.

Maybe the green weenies are right and Rush Limbaugh is wrong (OUCH!! That hurt more than I expected!!).

Maybe Global Warming is a REAL THING!!

But, living in Alaska, maybe global warming is a good thing?

Global warming? Doesn't that happen in cycles? Like global cooling, rabbit and predator populations, etc...? We've had global warming for at least 2000 years with little steps backwards now and then. To connect it to auto usage and cow flatulence while ignoring the thousands of mini heatsinks called cities, etc. is just poor science. I think that there are so many variables, there isn't anybody smart enough to catalog them all and truly understand what is happening. I'm also of the opinion that we'll just have to get over it and move on.

BTW, I was just reading about the 1790s when they had a particularly mild winter...

Just my own theory but, I came to Alaska just after Mount St. Helens blew its top. If you look at the path of the jet stream before and after it made a dramatic change in it. Then Mount Pinitubo blew in the Philippines and changed it some more. Then we had a couple blow here in the back yard and have had mostly mild winters sense. Like I said just my theory.

anchorage was -3 monday nite. cold, but we went shopping anyway, barneys, r.e.i., h.h., pawn shop, liquor store, a.b.c. club. it was a long tough day, somebody has to help the local economy.
