With all the emphasis on stainless / synthetic rifles and rain gear for Alaska, do any of you seal your primers / ammo ? I never have, I've hunted in the wet in the NorthEast but I'm sure Alaska is much wetter, just wondering ... I use primer sealant on any ammo I put together for a hunting trip anywhere. Hunting trips cost too much money to have a problem with your ammo. For a few pennies, why take the risk. When hunting around home I do not use the sealant.

I seal all my primers. I don't know if it is necessary & don't want to find out. Good luck on your trip.

Yes, I seal all my reloads. I use the cheap nail polish from Walmart, the kind teen agers use for .69 cents a container. I use a different color for each caliber, which gives a person another check for the correct caliber for your rifle.

Hi wolfhunter, I have Col Patterson's book. The real story is even more awesome than the movie. Thanks Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

Normally I don't if I was expect wetter hunting condistions I might and if I did I would use finger nail polish. But I have dumped reloads into water before and they still have worked. I fished a factory 12ga round out of the bottom of my duck boat layed there at less two weeks cover with water fired just fine.

Never have & never found the need to. I've been from the slope to Afognak in Oct. when we were weathered in for probably 40% of the time. Normally, even for AK., I don't see the need. I accidently washed some with a load of my hunting clothes. I washed them with Tide using the heavy duty cycle with hot wash and rinse. I shot them all at targets because I wasn't sure they were ok and they all shot good.

That's what I figured. I've hunted black bear in the rain, sleet and snow in the Adirondack mountains and never worried about it. I did tape my muzzle though, but still hunted with my wooden stocked Rem 700 BDL in 270, but no salt water there.
