Gents,

My last post about shrimping got zero repies. But I thought it's still a good idea to show that there's much more to Alaska than bears and sheep.

My pot puller motor broke last week, and it took a few days to get it running again. So our pots soaked extra long. I got a few on my string, but my buddies string of pots came up empty, except this critter...

My buddies three year old had asked his daddy to catch him an octopus to eat, so we took it home. But instead of eating it, the local college asked if they could have it for a new aquarium display they were making for the tourist. So the octopus got a reprieve.

Man it was a nice day!!! Had to break out the $5.00 shades

BTW, that's the puller hauling in 700ft of line, sure beats pulling it in by hand!!!

BW,

Spent 3 weeks in Alaska in July of 2002. My wife and I loved it! Not just the huntng and fishing opportunities but, the whole way of life. Alaska is like no other place I have been...."alot more than bears and sheep" is right!

I look foward to many return trips and I am planning to purchase some land for a camp in the next few years.

Regards,
Dave

tsturm,

I use some sort of commercial shrimp/crab bait. It looks just like dried dog food. It's suppose to cut down on catching those nasty multi-armed starfish which like to invade pots. So far it's working, as I haven't caught one since I switched to it.

HI,

BW, I was talking to my friend about just what you said that there is alot to do other than hunting, I always thought you could just use a throw net to catch shrimp.I guess it is alot easier with the pots?. Kev

As mentioned, octopus makes good halibut bait. I like cut cod and octopus on my circle hooks. A whole cod head can draw in the barn doors.
