Alaska is a huge state, so to make the broad statement that the bears are over-running the moose is a bit off the mark. In some areas of the state, predator populations are up, and moose populations are down. Unfortunately public opinion makes predator control difficult to enact. The other issue that should also be addressed is habitats. In some areas of the state, the forests are old enough that there isn't a great deal of food for the moose. Some good rip roaring fires will help, and we currently have quite a few burning. Perhaps a more accurate statement would be, areas of the state that see alot of hunting pressure on moose could use predator control and habitat enhancement. There are still plenty of areas to hunt, they just get expensive and time consuming to access. | ||
