Here in Colorado where I hunt I have to pack our camp into a canyon which takes multiple trips sometimes I start a couple of weeks before the hunt, so far no black bear problems although the canyon is loaded with them, see multiple bears every day. Of course I take no food just tents, stoves, meat packs, etc. leaving most of the gear on some big rocks in H2O proof bags. Other than getting a rope line between some trees and putting the stuff on the line, which would be more of a hassle is there anything I can put in or around the stuff like moth balls or something that would deter them or do you think strong smells might actually stir their curiosity? We use electric fences. Surely they must be available in the US. Grizz Indeed, no human being has yet lived under conditions which, considering the prevailing climates of the past, can be regarded as normal. If installed properly an electric fence would keep any bear off of week old McDonalds or dirty baby diapers or a perfectly seasoned, brilliantly grilled new york strip. Electric fences also come in solar powered models.

Dirk, I have used Pine-Sol in Alaska. Not sure if it works but I have never been eaten by a bear. ****************************************************************** R. Lee Ermey: "The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle." ****************************************************************** We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Dirk I do not know if this would work in your case, but I know guys in Alaska and Wyoming that use the same camps every year. They packed in some 55 Gal barrels, and put their stuff in them. At some locations they leave their tents, cots, stoves, dishes, etc. ie. all of their heavy stuff there year round. Once camp is set up they put their food in the barrels. Sometimes the barrels get rolled around a bit, but so far nothing has been damaged. Anything I leave at my deer lease that I do not want "messed up" I also put in 55 gal barrels. Get a few cans of Quick Start ether for starting engines in cold weather and smear a bit of bacon grease on them. Disperse around the site. Anything that bites into them won't come back!! A stranger is a friend we haven't met
