Greetings all- Here is an update I posted elsewhere: After the radio show I had to get back to work and had little time to report back. The show went very well. We were able to stay focused on the proposition; the too-broad wording of it, the unforseen and unintended consequences, the backing of exterme groups such as HSUS, that it bypasses the established process of bringing regulation changes before the BOG, how it removes management and management tools from the professionals, etc. We had calls from both sides of the issue and Listeners have told me they felt we successfully rebutted the comments of the pro-3 callers. During one of the commercial off-air breaks, I asked the moderator where he was positioned on the issue. He told me that he was prepared to vote yes-in opposition to baiting, but his view had changed based on the VOTE NO ON 3 presentation and intended to vote no. When we talk to nonhunters regarding this prop it is very important to stay focused on the proposition itself rather than a prohunting vs. antihunting debate. If/when it is brought through the BOG process, then we can attempt to sway their views toward the ethical and ecological benefits of baiting bears. The focus really needs to be that this proposition is bad for ALL residents, goes too far, and is done the wrong way. Most folks don't want management removed from ADFG regardless of their view of baiting. --Mike VOTE NO ON 3!! | ||
