Cabela's Outfitter's Fleece with Wind Shear for Spring bear hunt on POW. Is this stuff to heavy to bring? Will I be to warm in it? I would wear it as a base layer. I have good rain gear to throw over if need be. I'm just concerned that the berber fleece may be for warmer conditions and not for this hunt. Thanks

Fleece should be a part of this trip but not to replace a heavyer outer garmet (coat).

I love fleece for it's fast drying qualities but I'm not a fan of the windstopper because it's heavy,it retards the ability of the fleece to dry quickly and it doubles the price of the garment.

There's nothing better than a flece sweater to wear under a rain jacket but let the rain jacket be the windstopper and when the sun comes out you can take the rain gear off and dry out much faster.

I wear the Outfitter Vest alot, under goretex of some sort in wet conditions. I also like Outfitter jacket too, but only wear it for outer wear down to the mid to high 30's when it is not too drippy/rainy. If I were going on another grizzly hunt, I would only take the vest to layer with IMHO.

That is my main outer garmet no matter the season. Cover it with HH Impertech when it is raining and it will keep you warm. As far as weight goes. I don't think there is a lighter coat out there with the same desirable qualities. Wool is heavier without the windstopper and doesn't shed water or dry out as fast.

I have the jacket and it is seriously warm. I wear a light merinon wool shirt under it and am warm down to 25 F. It is hot abouve 40F or with a lot of walking. It is the best hunting jacket I have.

I have the berber pullover and the pants w/windstopper and yes, they are heavy, warm and excellent for the right conditions - cold and windy

The Berber is very warm & light weight when its dry, but it doesn't shed water like the "standard" fleece, and will become cold & heavy when soaked.
If your gunna get snow its perfect, but if rain is a possiblity, go with a 200 or 300 weight fleece instead.
I haven't tried the wool/berber comination, but that might be a great solution too.

I wore the same jacket on my Fall Brown bear hunt a couple yrs ago.
Was real nice in the constant wind & rain we had, I had HH Impertech over top & was never too warm.
Save your money, dont get the windshere crap, like mentioned it doesnt allow efficient drying, makes it bulkier, weighs it down & flat out dont last. I have it in a sweater I wore about 4 times & it is torn in about 5 places on the inside.

GL on your hunt, and be sure to give us a report with pics.

This is what I chose to wear, in today’s technology, during my spring 2009 bear hunt on POW. I found that an Under Armour ColdGear Mock T-Neck thermal top was adequate when combined with a long-sleeved Microtex shirt, Berber fleece vest with WindShear lining, and a Gore-Tex outer layer as needed. I also brought additional layers, just in case I needed them to keep warm. My bottoms consisted of underwear, Microtex pants and, of course, a Gore-Tex outer layer as needed. I also carried Under Armour ColdGear thermal bottoms, for additional warmth if needed. I carried insulated gloves but rarely used them during the trip. With this type of clothing, you can open your shirt if you overheat, and you will cool off and the under layer will dry quickly.
