Thanks.......Yes, that's my the left hand Model 70 SS 30-06. I had the guys at VVCG square the action and I matched it up with a McMillian stock before I went on this hunt. I put the rifle next to the Caribou for comparison purposes for the thickness of the antlers.

I got a draw permit for the Delta Caribou Herd. I ended up doing a fly-in solo hunt. The area had some nice bulls - The one I killed had a big body but lacked shovels or palms. Note on the photo - The main beams: right side 49 5/8" - left side 46" - I flew out 260 lbs of boned meat.

Thanks Ann. The B&C folks don't have a non-typical scoring system for a true non-typical Caribou- So I thought a Cari-Elk name would fit this bull. Around the burs, he's 8 4/8". The bez are 15" in width on the right side - 12" on the left side in width. If B&C would allow me the count the width of the bez he would score right around 380, and that includes zero points for the palms in six areas on method 23. Here's timed photo of me and the bull.

Thanks Mike - Iowa Ridge, by way of the Little Delta River. This hunt started on the 14th of Sept. 2004. I got the on bull on 17th, season ended on the 20th of Sept. I flew in on the eve of 14th and a storm blew in that night. I set up camped right at the 2600 ft level. The temperature went down to 12 degrees F. with blowing snow and I awoke to 6 degrees F. Doing solo hunt in these kind of condition jacks up the fun factor. For one example keeping water thawed without a woodstove. My solution-sleep with your water. I had several of the flat pillow pack water containers that fit between my sleeping bag and my pad. The pilot that flew me in told me to prepare my pack as same a sheep hunt, keeping the pack around 65 lbs mark. I had prepared for cold weather, by taking extra fuel, a 4 season-3 person pack tent and a last resort Sat-Phone. I work for this bull. It took me 6 trips up and back a mile and a half each way across the knolls of the high tundra to pack this bull out to the meat pole. I really did have fun and would do it again.

The rifle looks pretty good with the Mac stock - I'd like to see it sometime. I finally got my Rifles, Inc. LH SS 70 in 338. Also picked up another LH SS 70 action, but haven't decided what to turn it into yet. If you have more pics of your caribou hunt, bring 'em by the 8th floor next week and I'll show you pics of my moose hunt. Did you send some to our friend in Topeka yet??

Yes, I do have more pictures - I'll bring them up - I also picked up a LH Mod 70 SS in 338 just before I left for this hunt. You'll have to stop the house to see it and the Caribou rack. I just got it back about 2 weeks ago. Mike at Rug & Rack did a pretty good job with it IMO. No, I have not been in touch with Topeka yet. I'll have to do it though.
