akpls: I have done the same thing for several GMUs/subunits..as you said, many of the units and subunit boundaries have very accurate narrative descriptions using place names that are not on the ADF&G boundary maps....to find unit boundaries and places within units, find the largest scale USGS map you can find and plot your area on it using the written boundary description. I like doing this.
