Hi, I'm thinking of picking up a Remington XCR II in 375 RUM for hunting coastal brown bears. my other option is to have the CZ Custom Shop (Harlan) fit my pretty 500 Jeffery with one of their very nice Bell & Carlson synthetic stocks and Johnson paste wax and oil the hell out of the blued metal. I'm at least as concerned about change of point of impact with my wooden 500 Jeffery stock as I am to water damage (swelling, etc.). Does anyone have coastal Alaskan experience with the Remington XCR II rifle and the TriNyte finish? Thanks, Chuck Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

Good question. I would like know what other owners think. I just picked one up in 338 win mag and plan on doing a coastal black bear hunt in AK this fall. If you buy it before the end of the year Remington is offering a $100.00 rebate.

I don't have any experience with the trinite finish that remington is doing but at Alaska Custom firearms they use a black nitride finish that has proven to hold up very well. One guide in particular did a 458 lott on a classic winchester action and had it nitrided, 2 months of hunting around the salt and the gun showed very little effect. THe most maintance he did was to pull a bore snake thru a few times. Over all we were all very impressed. So impressed that i had a couple of my own done. EIther rifle should work very well. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't just have your 500 sent off and nitrided to match the synthetic stock but its never a bad idea to get a 375 RUM. A stout load with 270gr barnes TSX is very potent.
