I still have about 6 years left until I retire from the Navy, I am already an Alaskan resident and plan on moving back. I don't think Fairbanks is going to do it for me year round am thinking about teaching in the bush. I was a police officer in Barrow for a short while and was thinking about Bethel, Kaktovik Anaktuvik Pass or Kotzebue. Anyone know anything about the hunting there?

D99, As I'm sure you remember I lived in Dillingham for 22 years. To my mind Dillingham, Kotz or Nome would offer you an actual town with real stores, jet service etc. plus good hunitng and fishing nearby. Bethel has the same but you have to go a long way to find big game country. The other places you mentioned are much smaller, very remote and your social life may be a bigger challege there. Mark, Kaktovik has muskox, brownbear, sheep, caribou and wolf and so does Anaktuvik Pass. That's what I was thinking. AKP is the only 3 ram area in the state. Yes the Eskimo subsistance village BS would be tough. It was tough in Barrow, I am sure it would be super-tough in Kaktovik or AKP or in Kotz. Nome and Dillingham are not subsistance villages. That's probably the way to go.
