Has anyone hunted caribou there and could share some info. Looking at maybe booking a boat dyi blacktail/caribou trip for first week of sept 2021. Thanks for any info

No caribou on Kodiak that I am aware of . Bears, goats and deer

Technically they are "reindeer" that escaped and went feral decades ago. That may or may not be an important distinction when it comes to regs but I don't have them in front of me at the moment.

Saw plenty of them on the south side of the island.

If there legal to hunt I am ok reindeer or caribou. Just want to make sure there is some there that are huntable. They just started offering them as a hunt so only 2 hunters have done the hunt but both took bulls in a few hours of hunting.

They have been huntable on the island for a few years.

Problem with Kodiak is the 4 legged competition.

About 1923? they introduced some Reindeer these are the escapees, like Adak tu2

You will need a caribou tag. Talk with your transporter for more specific location information, USFWS info..


If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.

Don't plan on shooting a reindeer. Like caribou they are here one day and gone the next. My outfitter on the South of the Island offers them along with his bear and/or deer hunts but it is not a slam dunk.
