I am heading up to Bethel in a couple weeks to do some work. It has been recommended to me to get a pair of Bunny Boots as they are waterproof warm etc. I was thinking about getting a pair but wanted to know what you guys wear in the winter in AK, for standard working outside. Since it will be in the first part of April, I don't expect it to get super cold, but you never know. For the work I will Helicopter in, and some walking will be required but not a lot with minor loads, it will be some sitting also. Pretty much standard work just in the bush. Any recommendations on boots that are waterproof, comfortable and good down to COLD conditions. Thanks, Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. I never liked the Bunny boots as they don't breath at all. I thnk you'd be fine with pack type boots such a Sorels, LL Bean or Shnees. Mark MARK H. Agree with Mark here. Breakup is rapidly approaching so it isn't gonna be very cold - at least for us. If it were me, I'd wear my knee-highs with a felt sole on the bottom, & 2 pairs of socks. One regular & 1 heavy. Though I don't work outdoors, I'm wearing them now when I expect to spend very much time outside. Temps here in Fbks. area are above 0 in the day & slightly below at night. We've got close to 12 hrs. of daylight as well. Guess it depends on your definition of "cold". It's pretty warm as far as I'm concerned. You might look into the Wetlands Premium Muck Boots, also. Very warm, and will keep your feet dry. Rated down to -20 degrees. Knute

Look for a pair of XTRATUF rubber boots, insulated. If you are walking around, they are great. If you are hiking and carrying a load, they are hot. Like most rubber boots, you can roll down the tops and get cooler. They are about $100-115. Bunny boots are good for extreme cold, low to moderate exersion (In my book). If your feet get wet, their non breathing characteristic will allow you to slog along in warm wet boots. Do that for 2 days and you have emmersion foot. BTW, winter is over up here and the days are getting longer. Cheers, Matt

Thanks guys for the info. Picked up a Pair of Baffin Pack Style Boots with rubber lowers and leather uppers. Should fit the bill well. Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. DRSS .470 & .500

The pacs will work for you. I wear those if I have to sit around for awhile. Otherwise the Muck Boot Arctics work fine all winter for me.
