I actually have 3 questions, this is one of them. Who are the "go to" guys/areas around Kodiak for bear hunts. I would value input from people who have hunted (guides or clients) or have intimate knowledge of the area. Thanks in Advance.

Go to guys or go to businesses?
Paul chrevnak hammers some great bears and actually guides. Scott miluer, Karl braendel. Well everyone on the island hammers great bears on occasion. Some are gaurunteed tags though.

Jake,
I would be looking for either, if it is a guide, I would appreciate what outfit he works for. My tendency would be towards an outfit with guaranteed tags unless you feel there are some choice areas with a chance of drawing a tag that should be looked at? This would be my 4th bb hunt, I was blessed to take a nice bear a couple years ago so I am looking for a place with the best shot at a giant if the right amount of time and "pickiness" is applied.
THanks again for the info

Karl of mim ridge guide service offers a very unique hunt and they kill some great bears. He does all his own guiding. And is a gauruntee tag. I know nothing about how he runs his business as far as ethics/personality/etc.
as far as areas with more big bears than others, nope. It’s all about right place at the right time. Seen an 11’ bear in a draw area next to town that had horrible draw odds and they kill 10’ plus bears off the road system by town every year.
Paul chrevnak(sp)does well too. A few areas have been bought out by younger guys now like Dennis harms, Paul lameroux, one of Scott’s areas and one of Paul’s areas. The island is s beginning to slowly change into the next generation of guides.

Ugak is also state land area with drawing odds lower than what the guides farther south on the island would have.

Mike Munsey-Second generation family business, guaranteed tags and knowledgeable guides. When I was there in 2013, everybody in our group of three got their bear.

I'll second the recommendation for Mike Munsey. I have nothing but the highest regard for Mike. PM if you want some details. Munsey's Bear Camp will have a booth at SCI.

I hunted Moose with Dennis Harms in the Farewell Burn with great success. He has hunted Kodiak Bears for many years and has taken huge Bears. I would highly reccomend him and his guides. I don't have his site in my head but by referring to past brochures could come up with it. Good Hunting.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

George Wescott Alaska Outdoor Adventures DB134 in the Spring and three tags are available for draw. I hunted with George twice in Kodiak and going back for my third visit. Hard working outfitter and saw a number of bears in his area. I was able to harvest a 10 foot bear with a George.

I wish you luck, I hear you can't go wrong with Scott and his area I believe is the famous P&T area at least part of it

Hunted with Scott in April 2014 at Karluk. That was the first year he got the guiding rights in that area. He personally guided me and I killed a 28 1/8" bear which was the smallest one taken that spring.
My friend will be there May 1 hunting Karluk. I don't know if Scott will be guiding at Karluk or at Red Lake. Andrew Weaver has been guiding for Scott in the Karluk area for the last several years. He's a great guy also. Good luck and post pics.
