Gerard, very good news indeed! Have not been to your website in awhile and since our contact for your bullets in the US ran out of bullets-not up to speed anymore.

I find favor in my use of a Rem 30 338-06 and trust to use it on Grizz this spring. Do you have a recommendation for this caliber? I lean towards heavy weights for penetration but from what I gather you go lighter in weights than what I am use to.

I will attempt to give this fella a holler or an email rather and see what he expects for a date. I could easily revert to the 9.3 x 62 this spring as well. Just like my Rem. 30 the best.

Hello guys. Thanks Gerard for the announcement. I am a new dealer for GS Custom and excited to be able to offer their excellent bullets. They are the only ones who can offer you a true driving band monolithic bullet. In over 4,000,000 bullets they have not had a single documented bullet failure.

Also, want to clarify that I'm not just an Alaska dealer for GS. I can ship anywhere in the US or Canada. Think flat rate priority boxes...that's the ticket.

I am not carrying every bullet in stock but can get anything they make in about 4 weeks. Starting out I wanted to try to ship from what I had on hand. GS has an old reputation for being slow on delivery and that has changed. I want to prove it to you and gain your trust by shipping from what is on hand unless you have a special request and we can certainly accomodate those as well. I'm also ordering blind without knowing what everyone wants so if you want to order something then email me at bpettet@gci.net and put GS bullets in the subject line.

I have 2 separate orders coming in that are about 2 weeks apart. The first one is shipping this week I believe. Here are the particulars on the 2 orders...

First order...On FN’s, 10 boxes each of...
.375 - 270 gr FN
.416 – 410 gr FN
.458 – 450 gr FN

2nd order...mostly HV’s with a bit of FN's for .470's, here is the incoming inventory...

224040HV057 X 4

257100HV054 X 4

270110HV068 X 4

284120HV062 X 7

284130HV065 X 5

308160HV078 X 3

308130HV080 X 4

470450FN052 X 2

470500FN075 X 2

338225HV055 X 2

375265HV091 X 2

308150HV079 X 3

The 400gr 458 HV sounds like a good alaskan bullet for my 458 Lott. Is there a chart of these bullets SDs and BC?

Gerard will be along later to answer the tech questions (he's 11 hours ahead of Alaska) but his chart recommends a heavier bullet for the Lott's velocity (458450HV.094). Here are a couple of good overall resources for you to check the HV bullet's intended twist rate and application.

http://www.gsgroup.co.za/cip.html
http://www.gsgroup.co.za/hvtech.html

Be sure to check out the tech articles on the GS website. There is a lot of information there on these bullets. Don't forget there are also excellent solids (FN series), VLD match bullets (SP series), and the HP bullet line.

I am receiving some good emails informing me of how to order to meet your personal requests. Keep the info coming as I want to order what interests you!

gumboot458,
The 458315HV (BC .326 @ 3000fps) will be listed a little later this week, together with 9.3 195gr HV (BC .270 @ 3000fps), 285 117gr HV (BC .425 @ 3100fps and 243 69gr HV (BC .316 @ 3700fps).

grizz007,
The 338-06 is so close to a 338 Sabi as makes no difference. When the Sabi was freshly launched in SA, I borrowed a rifle from the manufacturer, Sabi Rifles , and designed a bullet specifically for it. We had the use of the rifle for several months and were able to test on a wide variety of animals including Eland. The bullet that emerged as the clear winner over the conventional 250gr 338s was a 180gr HV. The 200gr 338 HV works well also but is second best. Note that the Sabi website does not work with Firefox only with IE. The tables on the 338 Sabi page are for jacketed lead bullets as they do not include the mono 180gr HV. It does not fit their design and marketing objectives.

For the 9.3 there is also a clear choice - The 230gr HV

Thebear_78,
The Lott will run a 450gr bullet very effectively but for soft skinned game I lean towards the 400gr HV. It has more than enough penetration and will be more explosive inside the animal. I am splitting hairs here.

We do not list SD numbers. With monometal bullets SD is of little use as it bears no relationship to the likely performance of the bullet. The BC of the 458 400gr HV is .335 @ 2500fps. The 450gr HV is a little higher but I do not have a reliable number for it yet.

I pulled the BC numbers from our site a while back when it became clear that some of it was complete fiction. The person responsible was let go and I am reworking the numbers myself. As reliable numbers become available, it will be put on the site in this format and linked from the load data pages.

Gerard, thanks for the tips/pointers. I will make certain to order up some 180's and have too the 200's-a trial for me.

That rifle of mine will do the trick, shoots a measured .6" @ 100yds with NF's and it could do better in a fine rest for sure.

regards,

I have used them in a number of calibers on a varity of game, and no better bullet exits today IMO...some may be as good, but none better.

grizz007,
The rifle sounds like a keeper. As a matter of interest, we have two customers who gave us feedback on bear. One shot with a 7x64 and the other with a 7mm STW both with the 130gr HV. Any 338 will give a greater margin of safety.

RIP,
The material arrived last week so we are on track with the 395s. Even with the bug doing the rounds at present (myself, the wife and two staff down with it so far) we should be out of the 395s by Wednesday next week.

Ray and Dan,
Thanks for the kind words. Expansion of the distribution network is slow but we would rather have it that way, and done by enthusiasts, than by someone who could just as well be selling burgers or shoes or whatever selling job is going at the time.

Gerard,

Do you have a distributor on the US east coast? I will be handloading in the near future and would like to give your product a try.

Hi Ann,
The other distributor is Custom Brass and Bullets in Arizona. Either way they will mail them to you. Where on the East Coast are you?

Gerard,
Thanks for the report on materials and production. thumb

It appears that Anne is in the New England state of Vermont.

She might possible add a complimentary Vermont Teddy Bear to orders over a certain size.
Nah, no sales promotion needed, the bullets speak for themselves. thumb

Hi Gerard/YD,

Any suggestion for a bullet that would make my standard .338 Win Mag shoot as flat as a .300 Mag and hit like a .375H&H?

I use it for everything from deer to brownies and even carried it in Zim as a "just-in-case" for a long shot on a buff. I really like the 225grain Accubonds but they seem a little delicate for the heavier stuff.

Anyway, mostly just curious as to what you'd think would really shine in the good ole' 338.

Thanks!

Hello to the big island of Kodiak. Do you know the twist rate on your .338 barrel? This tech chart for the HVs will help determine which bullet is best.
http://www.gsgroup.co.za/hvtech.html

Gerard likes the light bullets. Personally, I would try the 200's since you've got those big bodied bears out there. Still, if the 180's will stabilize, that would make an interesting blacktail and mtn goat rifle.

It's the standard 1-10 twist. You're spot on about deer and goats being the primary use for the rifle with the occasional elk, caribou or moose but those big brown fuzzy wuzzies are certainly a factor.

I see the 180's require a 11.5 with a minimum of 13.5 minimum. Well within the 1-10.

The 200's are 10.8, with a minimum of 12.5. Again, to spec.

Looks like the 225's are a bit too long for optimum in a 1-10 twist with the 9.5 required and 11.3 minimum.

Interesting concept to consider stability factors instead of mass for terminal ballistics.

Thanks for the leads!

...................I haven,t been able to get the 200 gr any other kind or bullet to group very well in the Ruger so I,m hoping the HV will ....@ 3000 fps ,, it should do well for a light rifle .....YK interest is growing for the 315 gr .458 HV,s and the 230 gr 9.3 HVs .........

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Here is a page of info you might find interesting...
http://www.gsgroup.co.za/newrules.html

As to deer and goats on Kodiak...man, that is something I seriously want to do. The elk over on Raspberry are interesting in a painful, evil kind of way. Eeker

I have to admit to also being very interested in the new .458 315 grain HV. That one should do very well. I also would like to see a lighter HV in .416 if there was enough interest in it. Any .416 fans out there?

The first order consisting of FN's is in country and headed to Anchorage. I should see it in the next day or two (it entered through the east coast). The 2nd order of HV's is shipping to me next week. The 2nd order has quite a few boxes reserved already but there are still some boxes left. Contact me for more info or to discuss getting in on the next order.
