Scott KingKings on the Nushagak 2013
Season is in full swing or winding down or something like that.
We had a bit of good weather and even saw some temps into the 80's!
Exceptional.
Moose seem to be quite well and I've seen a few calves.
But I digress. The fishing for salmon has been quite good again this year, although we as our little party didn't do all that well. Some good singles, but no doubles, and no really big fish.
Mybrother seemed to have quite a good time.
We spent 8 days together and enjoyed every moment.
Tina caught fish too.
Not sure what thats about.
Later in the trip we gave up on the Nushagak kings and went jet boating for some small stream stuff.
This one ended up in the bottom of the boat so we kept and ate it.
Back over the side he went after this photo.
Whatever is going on here ain't good.
Hopefully this little sweetheart'll avoid the toyota and live a long and productive life.
Those fish are awesome. I cant wait to get over there. Thanks for sharing.

AntlersHow were the bugs, in comparison to an average year, Scott?

slim buttesI miss the DLG. Spent about 12 summers starting in '91 in Dillingham working for PPSF and the last few drifting and dreaming.
I am trying to place the moose- behind and heading toward the AC store?

muygrandeScott nice fish! Qyestion, will there still be a king to catch over labor day week around kodiak island. Four of us high school friends from the fifties will be fishing then. Thanks for any insight you may have.

I'm guessing, but I think no kings that time of year. I'm not familiar with Kodiak at all, but at that time of year I think I'd be hoping for some silver fishing, maybe salt and fresh water. Halibut outta be available via charter boat somewhere and there seems like there should be some fresh water species fishing there too.
Why not bring a slim pack of both fly and spin cast gear and be flexible?
The bugs were gawdaweful early in June but seem much more normal now. During out late June storm the mosquitos dissapeared but then again it was blowing 40mph. Currently the temps are back up in the high 70's, low 80's, the humidity is 62%. I can operate outside for the entire day with no more than two slatherings of repellent, and a light slathering at that.
The moose is indeed behind A/C and thats Bristol Express in the background. That picture was a first for me. I've seen bears downtown in broad daylight but not moose and certainly not calves. I hope the little fellow made it, but like I said. I've seen bears downtown.
The king run seems to be done. I fished quite a bit yesterday and never had so much as a nibble.

MARK H. YOUNGScott,
Those scenes of DLG or so delightfully normal. A crapped out truck carrying a crapped out van. Perfect! Moose near the grocery store! Let's you know just how far from the wild you really are.
