Anyone have anything to say about the outfits that have bison on the island, I would like to get a bull this year or next. Just have not heard anything about their operations. are these the same bison that you have to wait for them to get off the road so you can drive by?

Yup, they are the bison that stare are your car and dare you to continue! I was living there until 2003, basically you pay the owner (IIRC, he lived right on the fork leading to either chiniak or psagshak, about 80mls away from the main town) $2000 to hunt his bison. They have to be away from the ranches and main roads (common) and I don't remember how much or what you can keep, but it's not a hunt n go operation. BUT, I've been hearing that the old timer passed away and the buffalo / animals are now considered feral. I would give the city counsel a call first before planning too heavily. Overall I wish I had done it. The buffalo were in good shape and plenty big. "Molotov Cocktails don't leave fingerprints" -Dr. Ski

I don't think hunting buffalo has been too challenging since the Sioux and Cheyenne mastered horse and spear. Doesn't mean it isn't fun and I've heard that the meat is great. My wife and I drew back to back permits in Delta Junc,we pretty much staked out a farm with fresh activity and killed our buff,, they fall in the barley, puke it out, and are full of barley,,they taste delightfull. Cow was 370 lbs of meat and bull was 470lbs from the butcher! I tend to use more than enough gun

I love bison meat. Im still eating mine but its getting low so I might need to get another one. If I did take another one it would probably be a wood bison in the yukon.

A friend of mine and I have gone down there 2 times for bison. Yes, Bill Burton passed away. I would bet that his son, Buck, has taken over the operations. I think the prices are more like $3500 or so for a bull and more for a large bull. I would call them and see. Kodiak Cattle Company is the business name. With the price of beef, this could be a good deal. Matt
