Forty Mile Caribou migration is again upon Alaskans. Even though our road (Taylor Highway) has been washed out/closed for almost a month, a few people have made it through and they are seeing super nice bulls down in the Jack Wade to Canadian border area. Actually, we always see the nice bulls early before they get shot at; then they wise up pretty quick. Season for non-locals is towards end of Aug and will only last a day or so until harvest limit is hit. Us subsistence guys can get ours Aug 10, but caribou are funny. I have seen 7-8 thousand stretched across a wide valley as far as one can see and the nx day not a one to be found as they pick up and leave from time to time. State is opening road for 3 days then shutting her down again. I'm high tailing it to Fairbanks for supplies; maybe see some bou on the way. My daughter is shooting one this year; good deal. Luv roading the Taylor. | ||

Zhurh: Yup! I think you might be onto something there. A friend of mine who works on the Dalton week on - week off, then drives rigs for Carlisle north on his off weeks just called me today with the latest report he had. Seems as tho guys are seeing big bulls up on the slope but not as far south as Galbraith Lake. He also said the road, as of the 8th was pretty bad - lottsa mud. If we weren't leaving on Tues for sheep, I'd pack up the old Arctic Oven with some firewood & head north for about a week. Good luck to all headin' up north. Bear in Fairbanks Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes. I never thought that I'd live to see a President worse than Jimmy Carter. Well, I have.
