I am referring to the coupons in the 80s in which you just punched out the date, etc. I didn't get those as a nonresident. I remember getting the lockable tags - don't lose them. Also, you will have to ship your antlers back by air cargo; Alaska Air no longer lets you take them back as checked bags. Don't worry, I have never had an issue with them losing the things, but I suppose it is possible. Caribou hunting is one of the best hunts in the world. Enjoy it.

All the literature and instructions I've gotten and/or read state, "all meat in game bags must have waterproof tags attached to each bag with hunter's name and liscense information...tags must remain attached to meat or antlers/skins until final destination or processor." I don't think thats the same as the hunting tag? While I'm here, does anyone have any info on where the Malchatna herd is? I know it's rather spread out as far as herds go, just wondering...

TrademarkTexan: The waterproof game tag label has to be something regarding keeping your animals labled so that they are not mixed with other hunter's animals. The locking metal tag must remain on the animal until you leave the field (the regulations state: "The tag must be locked on the animal immediaely after the kill and must remain there until the animal is prepared for storage, consumed or exported.") On a caribou, the best place to place the tag is on the base of one of the antlers. As far as lableing your game bags, I use a waterproof magic marker and write my name and other personal information on the bags. The Mulchatna caribou herd is basically in southwestern Alaska. Illiamna is well inside the herd's range. But the Mulchatna herd extends north of Illiamna quite a ways and out to the west, towards Bethel. The Mulchana is a huge herd that covers a large area.

rwj, Below is all of the info on what I will be doing in your beautiful state. I took it from another post. The only change is that Craig Boddington will not be able to make it, he called me 2 days ago and because of some scheduling conflicts he will not be able to attend. He will definitely be missed as he is a lot of fun and is true asset to a hunt, we still have a couple other hunts planned in the future for me to look forward too. I will be up there on the 28th and the event is on the 4th out at Chena Lakes, come on out. There was a mtg last Friday in F'Banks about it and folks from the city and all the local volunteers are planning a really big time for everybody that afternoon. To name just a few of the celebs and others that are coming Chuck Yeager, Astronaut Joe Engle, Craig Boddington, Maj Gen Doug Pearson, Geoff Miller (Rigby guns), Jim Jones and Hunting across America TV Show, Chris Chaffin (The Outdoor Channel) and when I last spoke with Senator Stevens a few weeks ago he was going to be there as well as Sen Lisa Murkowski, Congressman Don Young and I recently heard that Frank Murkowski will be there as well. It should be a big time for everybody. I am staying around until the 15th with the TV crew to try and get another show done while in AK, we will be after black bears. Come on out, I am looking forward to mtg some of the folks from the forum there. Doug

That is amazing...Chuck Yeager and Craig Boddington. Is this a veterans benefit? I have read some of your posts about an event at Chena Lakes. Lisa Murkowski was at this years' SCI banquet and it is always amazing to see national figures right in front of you. I will see if I can make it to Fairbanks. I hope you have a successful hunt.

rwj, This is the event at Chena Lakes, we have alot of supporters out there and it is always a great time when we get to do something like this with folks like those mentioned. We are donating a Huntmaster which is a lift that will raise a wheelchair hunter appx 20 ft off the ground, it is surrounded by a shooting house to be out of the elements. These are courtesy of Budweiser, they give us a grant every year to pay for them to place all over the country, It is a great program. Come on out on the 4th Doug
