I have been lucky to at least see a bull moose each year during moose season. I hunt perhaps 80 miles from Fairbanks, on a ridge. But in the 2000 season, there were hunters all over the place, and that year I didn't even see the occasional black bear that usually eats berries there. This year I saw a bull across a ravine, too far from the ATV trail, so I didn't kill it there (too difficult to retrieve the meat). About an hour later, walked and browsed in the direction of the trail, but too far for me to shoot. By then my hunting partner and his son had arrived to my hunting spot, so I asked him to ride on the trail towards the next rocky knob and see if he could kill it from there. The moose spooked when my hunting partner got there, and moved back somewhat in my direction through the trees. I was perhaps 400 yards from it, and as it turned towards the trail but still getting closer to my spot, I tried to find a clearing ahead of the moose to shoot through. The moose moved closer, but stayed out of view. My rifle was very steady on a tripod I had made from tree branches a few hours prior. Finally, just when I thought the moose would get away, it stopped in a clearing just in front of the trail. My riflescope was already pointed on that spot, so when it stepped in, I fired my rifle. All I could see was it's chest, neck, and antler, but I shot it with a Federal 250-grain NOS-HE from my .388WM right through the chest. When the bullet hit, it turned around and faced in my direction, then dropped. Since it was a few paces from the trail, it was not too hard for us to skin and quarter it in a couple of hours. I have never seeing a bull moose (with antlers still attached), except during moose season, and that's why I don't have any pictures of bull moose. But cows and calves often browse in my backyard. Sometimes it feels like they are pets, so I enjoy having them around. Most of us probably feel the same about moose. They are kind of goofy looking (and acting), just like cattle I guess.

Ray, The timing of this thread is funny, I met my wife for lunch today, and decided to take a quick stroll in a local park after lunch. What did I see, a small 1 brow tine bull about 50 feet off the trail, and of course my camera was in my car, not my wifes car. When we went back to the car, we saw a cow, that had gotten down on her fore legs as she was munching grass off of a little leage ball field, a pic I really wood have liked to take! I mostly see cows and calfs year round, and the occasional bull in the off season. Seems like this year I've seen way more moose than in previous years. The cow that was originally posted also had twins with her.
