MetalMan: You probaby will not need to take an air taxi out of Anchorage and rent a boat...There are several ways of getting to bear hunting areas in Prince William Sound, or nearby areas. First, pick a community you can drive to or that you can fly to using commerical airlines and then from there either rent a boat or hire a boat to take you out and drop you off in a likely bear hunting location for a week (+/-). Plenty of people are dropped off by boat from Whittier, Seward, and Valdez. There is an outfit in Whittier that does this...you would have to search the Internet to find his web page. Search for "black bear drop camps out of Whittier," or something like that and you will find charters to help you out.

Thanks! Jay w/ Riptide seems to have alot of fans. Thanks on the driving bit. Never thought of it. Guess I was too busy looking at the air taxis. Is the rail worth riding the Whittier? Can you carry your gear and skins? Is is relatively easy to rent an aluminum skiff in any of these towns?? Thanks again!!

Myself and two others are thinking of an unguided black bear hunt in Prince William Sound. We have researched it before and it seems you can catch an air taxi out of Anchorage and rent a boat for a reasonable price. Some of the feedback on some operators was inconsistent. Anyone made this hunt or do any locals have any suggestions?? We are thinking of an air taxi from Anchorage, as during our last caribou hunt the multiple flights (some schedule changes due to weather delays) ended up being much more than we had planned. I also understand that the black bears are very think in the right areas. But, we are open to suggestions. Thanks for your time.
