This appeared in this morning's rag. I surmise that they were out deer hunting. I always pick the best of anchorages in the fall. In August, I am willing to double anchor on marginal beaches with a good wind forecast and small tide swings. Reminds me why I keep boat insurance even though it's been paid off for several years. _______________________________________________ An unidentified boat owner walks the beach Friday of Monashka Bay in Kodiak as his boat rolls in the surf. Rough seas caused the anchor to break free of the 26-foot aluminum craft, which was moored in the bay last night. The owner, who asked not to be identified, said he fought to keep the boat from the shore but failed. The boat, worth about $80,000, is totaled, according to the owner.

The only upside, Boats, airplanes, trucks, four wheelers can all be replaced. These guys got off lucky compared to what could have happened. None the less it does suck to see your multi thousand dollar peice of equipment destroyed!

True enough, stupidity in the bush and on the water has killed more than a few, and there are alot worse places to be stranded with a wrecked boat! Why he would have anchored in Monashka, which is not a protected bay, vs motoring on around into Kodiak harbor proper is beyond me. I suppose he might be mulling that one over himself. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.
