Thoes Hooligan/Smelt are oily, mushy little S.O.B.'s some like them deep fried or air dried
and dipped in seal oil, Yuck

Are these kind of like the "smelt" here in the lower 48, like around NY State?

Over 6 or 8" you whack off the head (and maybe gut them), roll in corn meal/flower, and deep fry a few minutes. Of course, under 6" you just roll in corn meal/flower and deep fry!

Done that way they were great!! Haven't had any since I left Watertown, NY in '87, or was it '88?
