Makes for a good story. I bought Ziggy a year after my daughter Violet was born. We'd list Babe to old age and although my heart was absolutely full with my little girl, I still had the intention to keep a gun dog iny life. Ziggy arrived and to tell the truth he was usually little more than an irritating distraction. We all liked him, but all my interest was in Violet. I'd take Zig along in the boat in family outings and guided fishing trips, he was a pretty good pet, but was lucky to get anything more than food from me. Out of necessity I taught Zig basic obedience and to fetch, (he loves to swim,) but nothing more. Well, he's always been Birdy. Really birdy. Loves to chase grouse in the yard and was always really interested in ducks. Early this fall I made the time to do some retrieving work and hunting work with grouse wings taped to a dummy and he excelled. He six and a half years old. We've been out there times this fall , he water retrieves the ducks with gusto and can be steady to shot and to hand with some more work. In this case I can teach an old dog new tricks it looks like. | |||
