Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

MARK H. YOUNGBrett,
Nice ram! I was in the Brooks about 22 years ago onthe Marsh Fork of the Canning doing the exact same thing. Nothing quite like that first sheep. Kinda feels like you've achieved some pinnacle of sorts in your personal hunting.
Big congrats!
Mark

SnowwolfeWell done Brett
My son is begging me to take him sheep hunting next year but not sure I even want to shoot another.
You have a very nice ram.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Marc_Stokeld CONGRATULATIONS!!!Alpine hunting is a love it or hate proposition, with me firmly in the "love it" camp. To me there is something magical about waking up in a tent on top of a sheep mountain. Of all of the variety of big game I have hunted or observed, to me, only the wild sheep deserve the title of "regfal."
Way to go bro!
BTW-something I used to say before becoming disabled, when folks asked why i preferred mountains and a chance at one animal vs. Africa and a laundry list of animals that could be taken on one trip: "I have known a lot of fat, old guys who eat too much, drink too much, and smoke too many cigars who go to Africa with a list of what they wanted to kill and they came back with a 100% success rate. I hsve yet to see a fat man on top of a sheep mountain."

A7DaveAwesome rams. Thanks for posting.
Question on your gear, Brett. Are those the Barney's Super cub or the Brooks range jackets? Once they get some back in stock I'm going to buy one, but not sure which is better for an August/Early Sept sheep hunt. I was thinking the Brooks range jacket, but am worried it may be overkill.
What did you have for rain gear and boots, BTW?
Congratulations. Lots of nice rams taken this year.

I'm going to post a gear report in my hunting report I've already started. It's the super cub which I'd recommend for an early season sheep hunt. I have the brooks coat and pant which I would use on a late sheep hunt or other colder weather hunts. Rain gear was Mountain Hardwear cohesion stretch. Boots were Scarpa Koflachs. Look for the gear report and I'll go into more detail.
