this is for a father and son team looking to hunt a big moose and a big brown bear in Alaska.

do both share the same hunting season?

the gentleman is looking to hunt out of a reasonably comfortable camp as his horse riding capabilities are limited.

can you help suggesting a well reputed outfitter? it is basically a best-in-class operation that we are looking for. not necessarily the most expensive, though.

your help will be appreciated.

I can't recomend any guides for such a hunt, but would add some things for them to consider on booking such a hunt. The areas that offer the biggest bears don't all hold big moose, or any moose. If they are looking for an exceptional bear, and exceptional moose, they should consider booking sepperate hunts for both.

I don't know where your friend is used to hunting, but he might find Alaska very different, and he needs to be honest with his physical ability. Very few guides use horses. Most hunting is via foot, with long hard hikes on ground that can be difficult to traverse, and in harsh weather.

In general Alaska is very different from say Africa. You generally don't stay in deluxe accomidations, nor are you driven around in a truck or ride around in horses.

thank you for your advise, Paul.

the son is young (40) and in shape. he likes mountain hunting more than anything else and has hunted the steepest mountains in Asia. he is a keen sportsman.

his father is 70 and is not capable of a phisically demanding hunt. was looking for an operation thac could fit with his abilities.

regards,

montero

I would think a boat based bear hunt could work with the fathers abilities, though it is very important to be up front with the guide reqarding this.

For moose hunting, you'd want to hunt the very end of the season and with a guide that is good at calling in moose. In alot of the state the moose season ends before the rut really begins, which makes calling less effective.
