The best example I can think of is Lealand Railly and I were at the dump in Cloudcroft NM many years ago. we were barely in our teens. Practicing with a 22 pistol and a black bear comes by too close and Leland panics and dumps 14 shots into the bear as fast as he could and we ran and jumped in the PU and rolled up the windows..the bear was dead. At the time we thought it was exciting, a bear being shot with a 22 can make a lot of noise and act like an acrobat!! Hers another 22 bear kill 3 shots. Bear killed: Marquand man feared 400-lb. bear was going to attack dog By SCOTT MOYERS ~ SEMO News Service MARQUAND -- A 400-pound black bear was found dead Monday morning near Marquand, a day after it was shot three times by a resident who said he was afraid the bear was going to attack his dog. Though it is illegal to kill black bears in Missouri, the man who shot the bear will not be charged because he was protecting his property, said Ken West, regional supervisor with the Missouri Department of Conservation in Cape Girardeau. The name of the man who killed the bear was unavailable Monday night. The bear first showed up at the man's house, 3 miles south of Marquand near the Bollinger-Madison county line, on Saturday night, West said. The man ran the bear off Saturday night after it ripped boards off his shed to get to some animal feed. Uncharacteristically, the bear returned Sunday night. "Normally, once you run a bear off, he doesn't come back," West said. "But he came back. The guy tried to run it off again, but the bear apparently stood his ground." The man said the bear stood up on its hind legs as the man's dog advanced. Standing up, the bear was 6 feet tall. "He was afraid the bear was going to tear up his dog," West said. "So apparently he shot the bear three times." The man used a .22-caliber rifle. The wounded bear ran into the woods, West said, and the man called the Bollinger County Sheriff's Department, which contacted the Department of Conservation. The bear couldn't be located that night. The next morning, the man called the agency and said he'd found the bear dead 150 yards from the shed.

I see this thread is still active and since I finally had a fast connection I looked at Chutes video. Like most self proclaimed internet experts he claims he talked to some anonymous guy in a gun shop who had talked with the troopers who investigated my DLP shooting and they couldn't figure it out ! I will say that is a total fabrication because there were no troopers involved. Period. It was all done through the King Salmon Fish and Game biologists. But most people quickly learn not to believe half the crap they are told by they guys behind the counter in gunshops. But when it came to his shooting results, I wasn't surprised as much as Chute , I wonder what his real name is ? , discovered that the 9mm ammo completely penetrated his ridiculous synthetic bear. I had also done extensive testing and had complete faith that it would. I happen to have bears living around me too, according to AK F&G the dentist population of brown bears in the state. And probably the world ! Yet since it is still true wilderness, with massive wild salmon runs, moose, herds of caribou and fields of grass and berries, the bears have no attraction to human food. We use a grill virtually everyday throughout the summer and fall and it sits outside year around and even though it is common to have bears walking around the house and buildings, they have never shown interest in it, nor the garden and greenhouse for the past 32 years. I had also done extensive testing and had complete faith that it would.[/QUOTE] with Phil, Was talking to you with son Kyle before you left for bear camp and you were going to test handguns for penetration. Before the bear incident, its nice to know what works and what does not before and if you have to use it. Kurt Tested a bunch of bullets out of various pistols in different stuff in the early 80,s and was quite revealing what penetrated and what did not. kk alaska

interesting to see how behavior can be different if there is enough food sources or not for the ursus arctos ... or the genes have been passed on generations to avoid to be bad around the Shoemakers ....
