Russell: Not trying to start a spiff here on the board with anyone but when they say that they use Super cubs to locate bears in their dens, a warning signal goes up in my mind. It almost sounds as if it's airplane hunting to me. It's illegal to take an animal (with some very minor exceptions) until after midnight of the day you are airborne. Also, radios can't be used to guide hunters on the ground to game animals. Like I say, I don't want to start an argument here & perhaps they are on the up & up. Bear in Fairbanks | |||

Bear, Actually I believe the laws is no hunting till 0300 the day after you fly in. So if it' still light enough to fly in a 2100, you only have to wait 6 hours to go hunting. If their area is anywhere near the Katmai NP I'd keep an I on the news. Three bear were found shot and left to rot in that area. Who knows, but ADF&G may count those bears against any quota for hunters. Again, that's just a guess, but I'd check it out if planning a hunt in that area. I read this on their website... 'Ask any taxidermist and they will tell you the only time to kill a Big Brown Bear with a Prime Hide is to get them while they are still in their den. You can go shoot a rubbed bear down in southeast or anywhere else in the state anytime you want' ...and realized that whoever writes their ads is full of crap.  Sure hope that doesn't carry over into the day to day activities with that outfit. | |||

When I was in Alaska hunting brownies this May, I do recall it was 0200 or 0300... I believe BW is right, that it's 0300 hours when you can hunt them. As I posted here upon my return, there was a bear on hand when I arrived and I won the toss between me and the other two hunters but, of course, I couldn't go out until the next morning. Well, the bear was there when we started -- but left the AO by the time we got there, about eight hours later. Oh well, that's hunting. Russ | |||

BW & Russ: I'll stand corrected on the hunting time after being airborne. I didn't check the regs on that & it's just ingrained in my mind as to being midnight. Apologize to one & all for the mis-info. Bear in Fairbanks | |||

FYI, you can inquire about any licensed guide through the state. If you go to this web page there is a link for filing a complaint. It's a link for the investigator. Just make an inquiry to him about the guide, complaints, violations, etc., and you'll get the straight story. 0300 is correct, btw. Ken | |||
