Are there any areas in Texas that have decent deer hunting opportunities and public land.

You probably would get a better response on the American Big Game Hunting Forum. This one is kind skewed for hunting Alaska.

Wrong forum but what the heck: 1.2 million acres of public land huntable; another 1 million plus if you count Federal properties like Ft. Hood in Killeen. There is a cheap 5 day non-resident license fee plus $48 per year to hunt public land. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.
