I recently made a trip to Anchorage for spring bear on United Airlines. Checked baggage and firearm in Tyler, Texas for connecting flight to Houston(GB) and then direct to Anchorage. When I went to get a boarding pass at the Anchorage gate in Houston I gave the attendant my itinerary. She did all the usual and then asked to see my Passport, which I did not have. I asked why I needed a Passport. She said you must have a passport. but not a visa, in fact you should not have been let on your connecting flight without a Passport. By then I was getting a little steamed. She then showed me the regulations on her screen and said you will never clear Canadian customs in Calgary without your Passport. "Lady, I am not going to Canada, I am not going through Canada, I am going directly to Alaska, a state in the U.S.A. At some point it dawned on her where she was working and she quickly and sheepishly gave me my boarding pass. All this probably took 10 minutes. And they wonder why airlines have such a low approval rating.

FrostbitWe Alaskans are used to this mentality. Plenty of mail order places will have a person tell you, "We only ship to the United States".

Or, in our case it was a $100.00 shipping charge for a thermometer for my Charbroil gas grill. No kidding, really!!!
Next trip to the Land of Mosquitos, take a hop to the nearest airport that has Alaska Airline flights and go the rest of the way with them. At least Ak. Air people know where Ak. is located.
Good luck next time.

Everything for the tourists, you should see how hard they look at road check point crossing into Canada from Alaska; yet the locals travel the river back and forth unhindered like there is no border, just like in Texas/Mexico. But we too are now supposed to have passports also if we cross at a checkpoint and not over the thousands of miles of woods & rivers. It's about money like everything else.
Twenty years back, I hauled all my guns in safes & over 10K of ammo the whole way across Canada and into Alaska. Guy at small border checkpoint near Minot, ND asked me if I had any guns. I said no way, and then that the further west I got the better I felt, he looked at the big door on rear of that 30 foot trailer, signed the paper and said get outta here. When I got to Ak, I just drove through the border slow, nobody come after me either.
Lets just say, I wouldn't try that nowadays.
Also, guns get lost and are late often enough to not bring any, just borrow one up here.
Hey Bear, I had to get a washing machine belt for a Sears Kenmore. Had to call Arizona and they charged me60 bucks all total to get belt to me. Wifey called some appliance place in Fairbanks and they had the exact belt to me in 2 days for $24.99 total; 60 bucks from Arizona. Then I had to drop motor, gearbox, pump, and 50 bolts, spacers, and washers to get the new belt fished in there; but she now workey for another couple seasons. Better than $1000 bucks for new Samsung, no joke. You keepin cool?

Pretty hard to keep cool @ ~ 85 deg. for 21 hrs. a day. I think even worse are the skeeters. Never seen 'em like this. I heard that there are something like 27 varieties of the darn things in Ak. I fully believe that 26 of those are spending the entire summer with their entire families here at my house.
BTW, if'n ya need something from Fairtown such as your washing machine belt, lemmee know. I'll check around town for ya & send it if I can get it.
Stay cool & don't forget - The days will start getting longer in about 25 more weeks.

Dall85The problem lies in the outstanding education system we now foster in the US! How many teachers don't know the answer. Truthfully, we should all be thankful we don't get all of the government we pay for!

Still waiting for the list of the 7.

You left out O'bama's home state of Indonesia. Check his passport. Then there is his father's home state of Kenya.
If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.
