| The nephew is going down there this fall when he gets back from Afghan, imagine going to Afghanistan for Aug & SEpt and missing hunting seasons.
There are other places one can hunt caribou in Alaska that probably be alot cheaper a trip. You might deal with seeing other hunters but also see more & larger caribou I think. |

| Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure and I liked the looks of the reindeer racks. Heard the meat was really good.
Thanks again. |

| I caught the tv show sun night, they didn't look bigger than the big double shovels I see early in the season here in August. Course I wouldn't hike in over 200 yards to shoot any caribou.
I've seen Shockey tv shows get some real nice moose, I'll give him that.
When the caribou show up, there are between 800-1500 on our summit, and I see maybe a dozen super nice bulls. Probably more there, but I always see about that many. Once the season starts, they get shot off or high tail it outta the area quick, then I see maybe 3-4 doubles the rest of the season. |

| Read about him hunting reindeer there a couple of years ago. Thought that he mentioned something about having 'rights' to outfit or sell hunts there. Remember having the feeling that it was more of an advertisement than a story. He has this on his website: Shockey hunting$10,900 for one reindeer and sea duck hunting.

| I was thinking the samething. the show pretty much showed an isolated heard on an island. walks were pretty far but didn't appear difficult as far as steep up and down. from what i gather the islands are marshy and there are lumps for a lack of better terms that kill your ankles and knees.
always looking for an excuse to head north. love it here in montana but can't help but looking north every chance i get. did some fishing up there a couple years ago and had a blast...silvers, buts, and bows.
thanks again for all the replies. |

| I was out there last January. Call one of the local bird viewing outfits to rent a government house and an ATV or SxS and do it on your own it's easy hunting unless you get winded in Kansas. Speaking of wind.... It's not called the birthplace of the winds for nothing. When I left I wondered why we ever took back kiska and Attu from the japanese. Should have just left them there to suffer and die without a single US casualty.
Supposedly it's the western most hunting area in the USA. |

| Jim Shockeys hunt are expensive, but they are First class ALL THE WAY. If you can afford to do it, do it. I hunted bear with his outfit on Vancouver island, and it was absoulutley PERFECT. W. |
