Why would an albino moose be protected? Wouldn't that signify a potential genetic defect in the moose and a greater desire to harvest it to keep it out of the bloodlines?

White deer are protected in Illinois. Don't know why, but it's the law.

Call us superstitious, but most German hunters would never kill an albino or white deer! They are said to be fosterlings of the hunting gods Diana and Hubertus. Killing them would infuriate the gods and curse the hunter with bad luck!
Anyway, I wouldn't let them live out of superstition but out of the appreciation of nature's ever astounding omnifariousness...
Just my two cents...
