I'm setting up my Merkel 141 double for Africa with 320 Woodleighs at 2150 fps for Cape Buff. A cousin in Anchorage invited me to hunt moose and bear with him this August. My question is the 320 grain in the 9.3 too much bullet for Alaskan game? Would I be better off to reregulate for 286 grain bullets?

The Moose will not know the difference. Shoot what ever the gun is regulated for! ****************************************************************** R. Lee Ermey: "The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle." ****************************************************************** We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! I would think that load and rifle an excellent choice for Alaska hunting so long as you can shoot well. Good luck.

SWD A lot of people talk about the 320gr bullets in the 9,3 doubles. I have never shot them in mine, I am unsure if they will stabilize and do not think I could get 2150 from them. I have taken a lot of game with 286 Woodleighs [Soft and Solids] and 286 Nosler Partitions. I can say that those 2 softs give excellent expansion and penetration in my 9,3x74R double. I have shot game with other softs but those 2 are my favorite by far. Does not matter if I am shooting bobcat or cape buff, baboon or black bear they work fine. Let us know how the 320's do in your double. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

....In the 9.3x62 I know 2 guys who have killed brown bear with the 286 gr Orynx and Partition bullets... Worked Execellently ..A 320 wouldn,t be too much bullet for moose and bear but the 286 works very well... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....
