Unless you need the cash I would keep it.

You already have it and you never know what lays ahead in the future for trips, besides it is real good at convincing live critters to become dead critters.

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Then don't. Use it as a fence post or a tomato stake. Make a U-tube video by pushing it through a brush chipper. Take it to one of those local government gun turn-ins and get $10 for it.

Need more ideas? Burn the stock in the fireplace, smelt down the barreled action and cast a big metal beltloop from it.

Depends on what you need. I'm selling one in the classifieds for $1400 shipped with Leupold scope because...I don't need two 375's. Smiler

You don't. Sell it now, or keep it in your gun safe and sell it later. I personally think they are overpriced at the moment and will drop when production starts again....

But that's your risk.

I had two .375 H&Hs. Decided to keep the SS Classic M70 in an HS Precision stock.

It shoots 300s at 2600 fps very well.

Makes a good backup gun for a trip to Africa and is fun to shoot piggies with.

So far, I am happy with that decision. One of my boys will want it someday ... and that's all that matters to me.

This was a factory produced Winchester. I have one in .30-06 with B.O.S.S. system. Great rifle, action is as smooth as silk.

I understand they will be produced again shortly? Let's hope so.

I wouldn't pay the prices for what the current model 70s are going for right now, especially since Winchester has introduced the new model 70 for '08. Plus, the 'old' classics are junk, anyways. At least the past few years they have been.

Moose-Hunter,

You are 100% correct in that the prices of the later model classics is about to tumble once the M-70 kicks up production.

If you want to sell your later model classics at the super inflated prices they've been going for now is your last chance.

I got rid of all of mine that I wasn't using. Most sold for twice some three times what I paid for them.

Those days are about to come to an abrupt halt.

Sell the thing! I would since the .375 Ruger is here and the Hornady bullets are such a big hit. I forget what kind of bullets they are but they must be better than the selection that are loaded in the .375 H&H magnum. The rifles are nicer also! They are a little bit light and produce more recoil than the typical model 70 Winchester which in turn will be less conducive to accuracy but what the hey!? Try one of these puppys out. You'll not regret it! They may be a little tough to get ammunition for but just make sure to bring several boxes along and stash them in several places so lost ammo is not a problem. I truly do love the new Ruger rifles and think they will supplant the .375 H&H rifles world wide in several years provided Ruger heeps making these rifles and caliber. I've already sold my H&H rifle and have purchased two of the Ruger rifles in African and Alaskan models. I couldn't be happier. I can't wait to get to Africa so I can use this new caliber on some of the game there. I wish you all the best.

Beltloop, I'd keep it. I had one built for Alaska Moose and Bear, and the first time I used it was for Elk in Wyoming. I was extremely impressed at it's performance. That first Elk went down (and stayed dead) like it was hit by Thors' Hammer. They have great downrange performance and are accurate. Yeah, it's overbore for deer, but if you know for a fact you'll never go Elk hunting in the Rockies or get to Alaska, (or Kenya for that matter)that rifle is a keeper. Besides, if you keep it you'll have a reason to go to hunt those exotic locations.
