There are now "MANY" and some have issues with-in Alaska operational reliability. I am shopping for a new PLB type tool (exclusively for Alaska). I do "NOT" want an annual fee. My single "highest" priority feature is SOS for emergency extraction. Other features nice, but not that important to me.

I am considering this product: ACR Bivy Stick Two-Way Global Satellite Communicator Device

Thank you for information.

ALASKA is a "HARD COUNTRY for OLDMEN". (But if you live it wide'ass open, balls'to the wall, the pedal floored, full throttle, it is a delightful place, to finally just sit-back and savor those memories while sipping Tequila).

Only used the Garmin product only in the lower 48.

This interesting that they have no annual fee.

Went to their site they have some interesting stuff there

I have used Garmin, SPOT, and Zoleo. Garmin and SPOT have simple monthly plans. For a simple device, I'd suggest the Garmin InReach Mini or SPOT Gen4. SPOT X if you want an all in one device that has those extra features. It's larger, but the keyboard is really nice. I went Zoleo because I always have my iphone for mapping, but the subscription is 3 months to start, then you can do what you want with no annual.

These guys have pretty thorough reviews of what is out there now: https://www.outdoorgearlab.com...sonal-locator-beacon
